Did you know that you can find out the approximate height of a tree with the help of a friend and a yardstick? Here’s how you do it. First, pick a tree and walk out 54 feet from its base. Next, have your friend hold the yardstick upright on the ground at that spot. Now, walk 6 more feet away from the yardstick and lie close to the ground. While you are lying on the ground, look up where the top of the tree comes on the yardstick. The best way to do this is to ask your friend to move his or her hand down the stick until you say “stop”. The height of the tree will be about ten times the height marked on the stick! Isn’t that cool!
